Our mission is to give voice to the waters and land of the Little River and its kin.

This project creates space for reciprocity, listening, communication, prayer, processing grief, healing and creativity. We create art together and host gatherings to honor the wisdom of nature and build community.

The Little River of Belfast and Northport, Maine, is the only contiguous greenbelt and waterway from Belfast to the Penobscot Bay. The 5 miles of trails of public hiking trails that hug its shoreline, weaving between tall white pines and wide-girthed hemlocks, are enjoyed throughout the seasons by residents and visitors of Belfast. The Little River and its surrounding mixed forest are home to diverse species of waterfowl, nesting songbirds and resident winter birds. The vitality of this river and its ecosystem is currently being threatened by a proposed salmon factory farm.

The Little River and Belfast are on unceded Wabanaki land. We offer immense gratitude to the Penobscot people who have stewarded this land and these waters for time immemorial. We humbly acknowledge that it is up to the current residents to protect this place for future generations. We invite you to join us in taking action to protect Wabanaki rights.

Prayer for the Little River

Sacred and Holy Mother Earth, divine spirit, blessed land, blessed water, blessed wild beings:

We come here with longing in our hearts for union with you and for healing.

We are here to pray with you for your life and for our own lives, for your future and for the future of all of us.

We ask that our breath can merge with your breath today, that we may be the hollow bone through which you speak.

We ask that your beauty and your wisdom be transmitted through our art to the community so that the inherent value of your life can be understood by all.

We ask that the Nordic project be laid to rest and composted so that you can thrive and heal.

We pray for the health and healing of all the waters of Earth; may all waters run wild and free communion with the stars, the stones, the soil and everything in between as they were meant to.

We ask that you can give us the courage and strength to plant and tend the seeds of truth in our community.

We ask that you can help us see and know the interconnectedness of life, that you can help us lay down our deep sorrow of disconnection and take up our rightful place as joyful co-creators in the web of all beings.
