Water immersion and blessings
Find us at the beach access point at bottom of Mayo Street in Belfast, Maine.
We invite you to join us for a simple communal moment of expressing our gratitude, connecting with the waters, and recommitting ourselves to being caretakers of our place. We feel inspired to take the time to gather and acknowledge that the Thanksgiving holiday is rooted in our painful history of colonization and this struggle is still alive today. We also acknowledge that the future and life of the Penobscot Bay is hanging in the balance and that these issues are intertwined and need our attention.
We will share prayers / blessings / reflections, and you are invited to swim (or simply submerge) in the bay! A truly enlivening, soul-cleansing experience! If you'd like to go in the water, bring a warm robe and/or blanket to wrap yourself in when you get out. It can be helpful to keep your winter hat on in the water. We will have hot herbal tea to share after the swim.
